Chapter 17: This Chapter is brought to you by Lakes

My head hit the table. Not the best record for paying attention on my part. Although Professor Rowan is well amazing, he does have a flaw. A major one, one that even that magnificent mustache cannot prevent or make look good. Sometimes the Professor can, well I am not sure how to put it, he info dumps. I am not talking that point in a game where one character will provide you with information for about a good five or so minutes forcing you to push that A button several dozen times. I am talking more about the info dumps that can take several hours since he side tracks so many times.

I was not sure how many times I have fallen asleep at this point, probably five in the last hour. In all honesty I thought I was going to get some actual information. I could not have been more wrong. It was in one ear and out the other. He mentioned something about time and space, and I just slowly started to lose it. Bella and Benjie got out while they still could. It was the first time I really did not want to see my kids.

My fingers tapped away at the table. I was giving my typical stare as if I was still paying attention to the Professor. If this was school I could at least look forward to when the class ends, not here, the class never seems to end.

Please let some sort of plot device happen.

For once my call of distress was received. At the same time I really wish it was not. It even made me feel a little guilty as a large boom echoed causing the building itself to shake. The television in the library, although I have no idea why one would be in a library other than for plot connivances, started to show some sort of breaking news. The good news was that the professor stopped talking. Bad news was that the bad guys were at it once more.

I waited for the news. There were the three main lakes of this region that supposedly housed three legendries. Since there was no one that would, or could for that matter, I would have to do it. In all honesty it really felt like this was one of those situations where people could and should help, but it is going to be left to me regardless.

I began to run out of the building. My fingers flew through my lists of contacts. I would have to go to one of the further away ones. The guys at my house were closer to one lake, so they could handle or at least contain the situation before I get there.

“I really hate this, but we will need to fly,” I responded.

“Wait you were not joking about the fear of heights thing?” Ellie responded.

“Princess won’t drop me if we fly. Right?” My daughter just gave a shrug. I’m going to die, aren’t I? Can a ten year old even hold onto me for that long? I snapped out of it, Bella has flown me places before, despite neither of us liking it.

The farthest lake away Professor Rowan contacted an acquaintance in the area to go to that one. It was far north and I have yet to be in that part of the region yet. The other lake was about the same distance away. In fact I am nearly back tracking completely just to get to it, seeing it is between where the fourth and fifth gyms were.

It would have taken us a little over a week to travel to the places. The lake up north was always covered in a blizzard. Flying there would be way too difficult. The other would not be. We managed to get there in a little over an hour seeing it was just a straight shot.

The area once filled with water and life was desolate and filled with weird people that had a poor choice in cosplay. At some point I would need to stick with an insult for Team Galactic, but for now that could wait.

The grunts that all wear the same thing and have the same hair style took no time to take down. There was a part of me that felt a little bad about them. I mean there was no sense of individuality. They did not even have different teams to begin with. For all I knew the first grunt I took out was the last one I took out. Once I decide to finally build an organization of my own I am going to at least make sure they do not have the same team at the very least. They could dress the same for all I care, but other than that just no same team members.

Then there was the head grunt, which I really did not even bother learn their name. To me this sort of thing was becoming way to, how should I put it, same thing different day. At least beating them gives me some sort of satisfaction.

“How long did that take?” I asked.

“Since you are used to it, and actually cut back on witty remarks for once, that took about ten minutes,” Ellie responded while looking at a watch.

“Really?” I looked at the time. “Wow, I really get a lot done a lot faster if I shut up don’t I?” It really feels like I just made some sort of really important revelation about myself that I will probably forget in either a few minutes or days’ time, more than likely the first one. “Well, then again beating the grunts is like ripping a piece of paper on accident.”

The flight back, as unpleasant as it was, it did not change the fact I really did have a fear of heights. Hopefully this would only be a temporary sort of thing. For now it showed not a single sign that it would not be.

Bella landed back at our house in Twinleaf where we immediately rushed off to help the others. Unlike where I went there seemed to be almost triple the amount of grunts here. Collin and some of the others managed to hold their ground as if it was nothing. It was just the large amount that proved to be difficult.

It took much longer than we expected to take all of them out. I looked over at my friends. “Well, that was not fun.” I responded nearly out of breath. “The bigger problem will be how they are at the other lake now right?” They did not seem too thrilled on what I said.

“They managed to get what they wanted by the time we go here.” Collin responded.

I nodded. “Same here. If they are at the other lake, then more than likely they are just conducting research at this point.” I responded. “They probably got the guardian, but have no idea what to do.”

“Do you think you will need our help?” Alpha asked.

I shook my head. “If they are only conducting research at this point, then just my current team could handle them. We need to head out in that direction either way for the next gym. By the time we get there though they may be gone.”

“Still it is better to try to be on the safe side. We have a few fliers here, if you think you might need back up we will get there as soon as possible,” Leaf responded. “We will also try to find a way as well.”

“Sounds good.” For now our plan was clear, head north, get the seventh badge, and put an end to whatever it is that they are doing over at that lake. We were not going to waste any more time with them.
Never underestimate the power of plot devices.
